Sojat Goat Characteristics & Breed Information
Sojat goat is a meat goat breed originate from Rajasthan in India. It is cross bred from another Indian breed named the Jamunapari goat. Sojat goat is mainly raised to meat production and its milk yield is low. This goat is mostly found between the belt of Sojat, Phalodi, Pipar, Jodhpur and some other areas of Rajasthan.
Special Considerations
Sojat goats are famous for their good height, health and for their mostly common white coat color. They are very suitable for stall fed goat farming system. The breed is not suitable for profitable milk production. Their average daily milk yield varies from 1 to 1.5 kg per lactation period. Sojat doe usually kids twins in every 12-14 months. And the does give birth to single in most cases (about 60 percent). Twins is also common, about 40 percent of cases.
Jamunapari goat is a very beautiful dairy goat breed which originated from India. This breed first introduced near a river of Uttar Pradesh named Jamuna. Since this breed is mostly known as Jamunapari goat. They are also known as some other names like Jamnapari, Ram Sagol etc. They become highly meat and milk productive and also very suitable for show. In India this goat breed is considered as the best dairy goat. They are one of the giant goat breeds with a pair of very long ears.
Since 1953, the Jamunapari goat has been exported to Indonesia. In Indonesia, this breed goat has been a great success. This breed has also played a very important role to creating some other breeds. For example, the Jamunapari goat is one of the ancestors of the American Nubian goats. According to the 1972 census, there were an estimated 580000 of the breed available in India. Although less than 5000 goats of the total were thought to be pure breed.
The breed is also known as Ajmeri, Devgarhi and Parbatsar. Sirohi goats can be found over the Ajmer, Bhilwara, Jaipur and Tonk districts.
Sirohi Goat's characteristics
Sirohi goat is a medium sized animals. It has predominantly brown colored coat with dark or light brown patches. On occasion, the color of a very few goats may be completely white. The body is covered with fairly dense soft and coarse hair. The hair grows at the rate of about 2 centimeter per year. Sirohi goats have medium sized flat dropping ears (much like leaf), and most of the goats are wattled. Both Sirohi buck and doe have small horns which is curved upward and backward. Their tail is curved upward and medium in length.
Special Considerations
Sirohi goat is popular for its weight gain capability, even under poor quality rearing conditions. They are easily adaptable to different climatic conditions and are resistant to major goat diseases. They are also well adapted to the hot and dry climatic conditions. Like most other goat breeds, Sirohi goats also love grazing.
Characteristics Of Beetal Goat
Beetal goat originated from India. this beetal goat breed is a very important in some asian countries especially in India and Pakistan. This goat has similarity with Jamunapari goat. These goat breeds are very highly milk productive. Also these goats are very suitable for commercial meat production. beetal goats are very suitable for farming inside the farm with little or no grazing place.
And beetal can also adopt themselves with any environment and climate easily. A large number of Beetal goats can be found in Punjab, Sialkot, Gurdaspur of India Lahore, Rawalpindi of Pakistan and some regions of Bangladesh.
Totapari mewati goats are extremely curious and intelligent. They are also very coordinated and widely known for their ability to climb and hold their balance in the most precarious places.
This makes them only ruminant able to climb trees, although the tree generally has to be on somewhat of an angle. Due to their intelligence, once a goat has discovered a weakness in the fence, it will exploit it repeatedly.
While goats are generally considered hardy animals and in many situations receive little medical care, they are subject to a number of diseases.
As far as diet of totapari, they can eat almost anything. While Totapari will not actually eat inedible material, they are browsing animals, not grazers like cattle.
The Patira Goat are popular goat breed found in India.
They have a distinctive body structure & usually have long ears. Apart from this they have a large body and are found in distinctive color. They are preferred for milk and meat. The Patira Goat are most dark brown & have small coffee colored patches over their body. They are available in lower price and can be obtained for milk Further they have high capability of milk production & there is meat is usually fat free.
Characteristics of Common Barbari Goat Breed
Barbari is a beautiful medium range goat breed. Its white color and beautiful brown patches all around its body enhances its beauty and it looks like deer in appearance. Basically barbari goat breed is the origin of Berbera Somalia of East Africa. In India it is found in the state of Uttar Pradesh and Punjab provinces, especially in the north western India and Pakistan.
This breed is also raised for its meat production and meat conformation is considered as good in quality. Barbari goats are also known for its early maturity and triple kidding are quite common in this breed.
This is the medium size goat breed with short ear, twisted pointed horns with bulging eyes which increases its beauty naturally.
It can be commonly seen in the Mathura District of Uttar Pradesh,in some parts of Gujrat and Jhelum, Sargodha district of Punjab Province. Many Breeding tract of this breed is found in Agra and Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh.
